Place of Origin

Maker Channell Chemical Company

Maker Details O-Cedar Polishes were sold door to door in 1906 by Charles A. Channell who founded The Channel Chemical Company in Chicago, IL. The "O-Cedar" name originated from the use of cedar leaf oil that was an ingredient in the company's products. As the company expanded, so did the brand awareness of O-Cedar, and the name just stuck. O-Cedar is now a brand of mops, brooms, and household accessories. The brand was originated by Martin Marietta; Drackett bought O-Cedar in the early 1960s. In 1992, after Bristol-Myers Squibb sold Drackett to S. C. Johnson & Son, the O-Cedar name was acquired by Vining Industries, forming O-Cedar/Vining Household Products. O-Cedar was acquired by Freudenberg Household Products in 2003. It is known for its jingle slogan "O-Cedar Makes Your Life Easier". Within a few short years, O-Cedar had expanded their products nationally and in several foreign markets.
